White Teeth by Zadie Smith

i heard about this book more than a year ago from SB - not acronym for small butt haha but SB does have a small but nice worked out butt haha.... tried reading this book about a year ago but never got through it. Found this book on the bookshelves on the resort some months ago ( has a beautiful cover by the way!) and decided to give it a go again! it was just something about it that kept me going back to it... :) And i finally finished the book today!!! (and got really nice and brown sitting by the pool for a good 6 hours!yeah!)

The scope of the story was really wide - which explains why i took so long to finish as i kept going back to the same pages each time i open the book. Or it could be a sign of old age lah!. The story is about two families (immigrant) - Joneses & Iqbals - two war time friends who both later emigrated to london where their families met and their lives interwined. A rather poignant outlook i thought yet humorous at the same time. It's about immigrants, second generation immigrants struggling to keep up (which i am sure it's still the same today!), friendship, culture, religion and a "FutureMouse" which i am guessing gave the book it's title as the little creature mimics the lives of the families and where they come to. :) So much said, I do recommend you check out the book :). I am quite sure no one will take as long as me :).. (Mulcster i think you might enjoy it. Put down that Sidney Sheldon book lah! haha....)

Reading a book like this make me wonder if the people that we work with over here feels like the expats are intruding in their lives and religion, or belittling their beliefs. At times i feel like i don't belong here. At times i feel like i do.
