We made CHAR SIEW!

Graeme & I finally did it! We made Char Siew today!!! it was like the real thing except it's not reddish pink. But it tasted like the real thing! I am not sure why we never tried, or took so long to decide to try it out. I just couldn't believe how easy it was to make and how yummy it turned out!!! :) hee hee.. so proud of us!

Here's the CHAR SIEW recipe!

ingredient list:

500g Pork Tenderloin
Honey for glazing after it is cooked
marinate:
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp of yellow bean sauce

steps:
1. marinate pork tenderloin and put it aside for 4 hours or better still overnight.
2. after 4 hours or more, place marinated pork tenderloin in oven and grill for 45 minutes or until cook. (forgot the temperature required.. will get back on this :)...)
3. once cooked, glaze honey over meat.
4. give it about 10 minutes for the meat to cool down slightly before cutting it!

presto : yummy char siew...

we had our char siew with noodles and greens :).. you can boil noodles and greens and toss it with oyster sauce, sesame oil, ketchup and a bit of chilli sauce if you fancy. :)

oh, you can also make wanton soup or fried wanton to go with it :)...

enjoy!!!

turtle update :)

as of today, nyoman decided to put the turtles out into the sea. their new home is now in a floatation cage just within 10 metres from shore. it looks far from the picture but really it isn't. it happened to be high tide when i took the picture earlier :)

the guys have discovered that the little ones seems so much more alive after several times of exposing them to the sea. hence the decision to put them in their own environment so early. the headcount at the moment is 18. we have about 30 over eggs that broke, about 5 has died i think... not sure if anymore will be popping out. but after surfing internet we learned that usually about 10 to 15% hatches and lesser make it to mature age. So we are counting our blessings. It's early days but we are hopeful. Any advise is welcome! (we think it's an Olive Ridley or Hawksbill)
